6. BULLDOG - Bulldogs have changed dramatically from their fierce and ferocious heritage to the modern even-tempered, good-natured dogs.  They have pushed-in faces with bulging eyes and protruding lower teeth.  Because of the peculiar shape of their mouths Bulldogs are a little messy when it comes to eating and drinking.  They also snore and wheeze, which can take some getting used to, but are gentle, sweet dogs who at times can be testy.

Training will take some extra patience, as Bulldogs tend to mature later then other breeds.  They become over heated easily and destructive chewing can be a problem if not corrected at an early age.

7. GERMAN SHEPARD - Although they are alert, responsive, sweet and loving dogs German Shepard's have high-energy and are strong-willed.  If raised in a loving environment and socialized early the German Shepard will be a friendly, outgoing dog that will be considered the best pal anyone can have.  However, if kept alone and confined to the yard German Shepard's will be an aggressive dog that will not be fun to be with.

When not properly socialized German Shepard's can be overprotective, excessive barkers that are very territorial.  Socialization and training should begin early and rewards of love, praise, and affection should be plentiful.  Bonding is the key to gaining control over the German Shepard.

8. MALTESE - Part of the toy breed, the Maltese is known for the companionship and pleasure it brings their owners.  They have a happy, sweet, and playful demeanor and will bark at anything that crosses their path.  Since they are so cute owners find it hard to discipline their Maltese.

The most difficult problem is housebreaking and the dogs can be very shy if not socialized at an early age.  The Maltese can become insecure or aggressive if carried around too much.   Most behavior problems are caused by excessive spoiling.

9. GOLDEN RETRIEVER - Golden Retrievers are typically even-tempered, sweet dogs that are extremely sensitive and playful.  They can be counted on for an exuberance of enthusiasm but can be strong willed and pushy at times.  Spoiling will lead the dog to take advantage of those that do not know how to say no.

Of the easiest breeds to train Golden Retrievers work hard and love to please their owners.  They will steal food off the table, chew your possessions, and dig up your lawn, as well as jump up on furniture and people.  Harsh verbal corrections will make the dog submissive or shy so love and praise is the best method of training.

10. DACHSHUND - The Dachshund is a sweet, high-energy dog that will have the run of the house if you let it.  This extremely clever and strong-willed breed will outsmart even the best of owners.  Dachshunds love to bark and dig and if you let them sleep in your bed they will sleep on your furniture too.

If not socialized with people and other animals at a young age they can become shy or aggressive.  The main training difficulty with the Dachshund is housebreaking and paper training is not recommended for this breed.
